The Tyne Pedestrian Tunnel, an iconic underground passage beneath the River Tyne, connecting Jarrow and Howdon. Its curved walls are lined with pale green and cream tiles, illuminated by overhead lights, giving it a distinct, vintage look. Originally opened in 1951, the tunnel offers a dedicated path for pedestrians and cyclists, providing a quiet and traffic-free route across the river. It has been restored in recent years, preserving its historical charm while serving as a vital link for non-motorized commuters.
