Sands of Time

Al Madam, United Arab Emirates

N 24° 53' 39.8904" E 55° 45' 52.5256"

Once a modest village in the Sharjah desert, Al Madam is now being slowly consumed by the dunes. In this photo, the soft red sands have flowed through empty doorways like a tide, sculpting smooth, wave-like patterns that rise nearly to the ceiling. The blue and green walls of the abandoned house provide an eerie contrast—cool tones against the searing heat outside, where temperatures soared over 100°F the day we visited. The air was still, heavy, and silent but for the crunch of sand underfoot. It felt like walking through a surreal, sun-baked hourglass—time and nature grinding this ghost village down grain by grain.
