A symmetrical study straight up into the skylight above the Rotunda’s grand staircase in Minneapolis City Hall. Designed by architects Long and Kees and built between 1887 and 1906 in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, the space is capped by stained glass crafted by the Minneapolis-based Ford Brothers Glass Company, its geometric patterns and warm amber tones set within a coffered frame of marble. Shot directly overhead and centered for perfect symmetry, the composition transforms the ceiling into an almost mandala-like pattern of glass and stone. This image captures the interplay of hard architectural line and luminous color that defines the Look Up series — finding order and beauty in the details most visitors pass beneath without ever noticing.
